Natural Hazard & Resource Planning

Phoenix’s environmental resources are an integral part of our growing city and are valued for the benefits they provide. Appropriately managed, they reduce health risks for residents and workers, lower energy and water costs, safeguard our water assets, and protect our environment. The systems that convey and treat stormwater, prevent erosion of hillside areas, promote beneficial air quality, and protect natural resources are essential to Phoenix’s environmental health and economic prosperity.

The two main responsibilities of this section are to implement City’s comprehensive plan environmental policies and to enforce general codes and ordinances enacted by the city to protect community standards. Specific duties involve approving various permits (e.g. floodplain development, development of hillside lands, riparian restoration).

The links below provide additional information for development in the floodplain or on hillside lands and for the development or restoration of riparian areas within the City of Phoenix.
